Positivity.8th March 2025
Since our reopening last month, we have been busy at work battling all the typical road bumps that come after an extended break, but this past week has still felt the happiest it has at Cylocybe in 4 or 5 years. It feels fun again. Our new premises is where it’s at; more space, cleaner, warmer, and with great vibes.
We’ve learned so much over this past year off, personally and professionally. Can we tell you something though? We’ve felt utterly miserable running Cylocybe for years. Everyone who knows us knows how we’ve felt about Cylocybe for years. But it wasn’t Cylocybe that made us feel that miserable; it wasn’t the customers, it wasn’t the hard work involved—it was everything else. Being locked into a 5-year lease for a unit we only took on to avoid a neighbour shouting at us about all the delivery lorries is a good example of us looking out for someone else’s interests rather than our own, at the expense of years of working in a miserable unit inside a miserable industrial park. That decision was one of the worst we’ve made, professionally and personally. It’s indescribable just how much of a toll it has taken on us. But now that whole situation is in the past and we can finally see positivity.
We’d also like to address a recent change on our site. Previously, we had a system in place to prevent certain products from being offered to new customers—a measure intended to slow orders down from new customers and create a system to reward loyalty. However, that code began to cause bugs, slowed the shop, prevented search engines from seeing our content (oops), and caused a wee bit of confusion for customers. Having ADHD, I constantly have new ideas. I like building new things and testing ideas—some are good, some are bad, and some just need more work. I know that some people send messages saying we constantly try things and then revert; very true (that’s just who we are!). Anyway, we have disabled that feature for now. All products are available to all customers.
Thank you for your continued support and patience as we work through new ideas (and maybe break things then fix things along the way!).
