Chicken Manure Pellets for Mushroom Cultivation

Heat‑treated, pelletised chicken manure adds the extra nitrogen and minerals that compost‑loving species (e.g. button, portobello and shaggy ink cap) need for large, dense fruit bodies. The pellets crumble easily when hydrated, blend uniformly and carry far less odour than raw manure.

Why Use Chicken Manure?

• High nitrogen (≈ 4 %) plus phosphorus and potassium to boost yield and cap size.
• Pellet form is dust‑reduced, easy to weigh and stores cleanly.
• Thermally processed above 70 °C—greatly lowers pathogen load and weed seeds.
• Breaks down gradually, supporting multiple flushes without ammonia burn when dosed correctly.

Recommended Rates

• Compost recipes (Agaricus spp.): 4–6 % of wet substrate weight.
• Straw or sawdust blends: 1–2 % of dry weight—trial at the low end for oysters or king stropharia.

Thoroughly mix pellets into the substrate before pasteurisation or sterilisation.

Basic Use

1. Weigh the required amount of pellets.
2. Soak or sprinkle into the hydrated substrate, crumbling any large pieces.
3. Pasteurise (65–70 °C for 1 hour) or sterilise (121 °C for 60 min) with the rest of the mix.

Pack Size

1kg resealable pouch—enough to supplement roughly 20 kg of finished compost at 5 % inclusion.

Tips

• Keep total nitrogen below 1.8 % of dry substrate to avoid excessive ammonia.
• Monitor internal stack temperature during composting; peak at 55–60 °C for best microbial conversion.
• Store the pellets sealed, cool and dry to prevent caking and nutrient loss.
