Light Malt Extract (LME) Powder for Mushroom Culture

Spray‑dried light malt extract supplies fermentable sugars, amino acids and trace vitamins—everything mycelium needs for fast, visible growth in liquid culture or agar plates.

Why Use Light Malt Extract?

• Balanced nutrients: carbon, nitrogen and B‑vitamins in one ingredient.
• Dissolves quickly in hot or cold water for clear media.
• Consistent batch to batch; no caramelised dark flavours.

Recommended Rates

• Liquid culture (LC): 20 g LME per litre of water (2 % w/v).
• LME‑agar: 20 g LME + 15 g agar per litre.
• Rich agar (MEA‑YE): 15 g LME + 15 g agar + 3 g yeast extract per litre.

Pack Size

100 g resealable pouch—enough for about 5 L of LC or agar medium.

Basic Use

1. Weigh LME into the desired volume of water.
2. Stir until dissolved; slight cloudiness clears after sterilisation.
3. Dispense, cap loosely and sterilise 20 min at 15 psi.

Tips

• Add 0.5 g peptone per litre if extra nitrogen is needed.
• Avoid >3 % LME in LC—too rich can invite contaminants.
• Store powder sealed and dry; LME is hygroscopic.
