Psilocybe Cyanescens Spores

Known affectionately as the “Wavy Cap,” Psilocybe cyanescens is a potent and popular psychoactive mushroom. Its nickname comes from the distinctively undulating or wavy margin of its caramel-coloured cap. This species is a prolific wood-lover, now commonly found in gardens, parks, and on wood chip mulches across the UK, mainland Europe, and the Pacific Northwest of North America.

These spores were taken from a wild specimen and may contain the odd ‘hitchhiker’. We will not replace any speciality Psilocybe spores or take a contamination report, as it is assumed the buyer is experienced and knows how to work with potentially contaminated microscopy spores. If inexperienced with microscopy, we recommend Psilocybe cubensis spores instead.

Background

This species holds a special place in British mycology, having been formally described in 1946 by Elsie Wakefield, who was working at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Its aggressive colonisation of woody substrates and its significant potency make it a prized specimen for mycologists and researchers studying fungal behaviour and alkaloid production, particularly its adaptation to European climates.
